Good Friday

THE 33rd Year  of the Good Friday Walk begun by Teachers for Social Justice in the Catholic school system in 1979.

Our little mustard seed, small as it was, gave public witness to the fact that the crucifixion was and is a public event played out in history. We refused to let it be consigned to the purely private sphere. We were committing ourselves to the social vision of the Church and wanted people to rethink what Good Friday really means. This public event begun 33 years ago is now an ecumenical staple on the streeeets of Toronto during Holy Week.

Sadly, it may be coming to its end as the next generation is “less churched”.

This year the veteran nuns, a few priests, many engaged social justice Christians were all happy to see each other.

It was “official”…the 89 year olds Rev. Stu Coles and Frank Showler were there.always inspiring.
