John Baird now has Pope against him

Remember Michael Moore’s funny (and very brave) comment when he won his Oscar for Fahrenheit 9/11 in 2003

Virtually alone as a public figure (the fate of the prophet) Moore took the stage just after the pathetic “war time” president and war shirker GW Bush took his catastrophic march into Iraq.

Moore said, “The Pope has said this war is wrong, that it is a SIN. The Pope! But even worse, the Dixie Chicks have now come out against you! How bad does it have to get before you realize that you are an army of one on this war?”

A majority of Canadians  are saying the same thing about  the worst Foreign Affairs Minister in living memory John Baird, playing Charlie McCarthy to the Controller Stephen Harper’s Edgar Bergen. The Ottawa ranter makes  Condoleeza Rice look like Joan of Arc.

As we see now the Palestinian Authority won a lopsided victory November 29 in its bid for “non-member observer state” status at the UN, 138 to 9, with 41 abstentions. and there was Baird on the wrong side of history again chastising the Palestinians.

Saeb Erakat, the chief Palestinian negotiator stated after Canada’s shameless  UN performance, “ This government is more Israeli than the Israelis, more settler than the settlers I think they have disqualified themselves from playing any role in the Middle East peace process.” so much for our tattered reputation as  a thoughtful even handed diplomatic broker.

Now. pace Michael Moore, even the Pope is against  Baird, Harper  and our poor country Canada.

It was reported that the Vatican cheered the Palestinian victory. On November 30 the Holy See released a statement voicing its support for a two state solution and “welcomed favorably the United Nations’ vote to upgrade Palestinian status from permanent observer entity to a non-member observer state.”

Now Baird has the Pope, Elvis Costello, the Pogues, Carlos Santana  and many other cultural workers against him.

  1. Terrible, terrible. It baffles me to even attempt to understand how the Minister can be so oblivious to the plight of of the Palestinians. I only hope that this will be another spike against the chance of another reelection.
