Mandela—licked again

>Nelson Mandela

One they asked  the windbag 13th prime Minister (1967-63) of Canada John Diefenbaker if he thought his face would ever be put on a stamp. The Chief as he was known, was not devoid of humour, replied, “Well if they ever did, it would be the first time in my life I’d  ever be  licked!”

Dief was on to something.

We saw this of course with the great black liberator Martin Luther King when he was murdered. He soon  was elevated to iconic status and the powers that be, many who hated him when he was alive, put him on a stamp, thus leaching the dynamite out of his message,

A year before his murder  he correctly called  his country “the greatest purveyor of violence in the world.” And so it has remained the fomentor of coups and destroyer of incipient democracies all over the world

Well, now it’s happening to Nelson Mandela.

You won’t find this quote in all of the official eulogies.

It is a tragedy, what is happening, what Bush is doing. But Bush is now undermining the United Nations. If there is a country that has committed unspeakable atrocities in the world, it is the United States of America. They don’t care for human beings. Who are they now to pretend that they are the policemen of the world, the ones that should decided for the people of Iraq what should be done with their government and their leadership,”

Nor will you find much mention of Mandela’s unflagging support for Fidel Castro and the Palestinian people.

Again, Mandela:

From its earliest days, the Cuban Revolution has also been a source of  inspiration to all freedom-loving people. We admire the sacrifices of the Cuban people in maintaining their independence and sovereignty in the face of the vicious imperialist-orchestrated campaign to destroy the impressive gain made in the Cuban Revolution….Long live the Cuban Revolution. Long live comrade Fidel Castro,”

The great African lion never wavered from his support for for the Palestinian people and his criticism of Israel.

Israel should withdraw from all the areas which it won from the Arabs in 1967, and in particular Israel should withdraw completely from the Golan Heights, from south Lebanon and from the West Bank.”

And’ “We know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians.”

Haven’t read that anywhere either.

Now  poor old Mandela is about to be licked—-again.
