Before dawn on Friday morning, July 31, Ali Dawabsha, an 18-month-old Palestinian toddler, was burned to death in an arson attack on two homes in the village of Duma in the northern occupied West Bank.Contrary to opinion this murder is not the first time Israeli settlers have burned Palestinians alive. A year ago a group of Israeli youths abducted and burned to death the eastern occupied Jerusalem teenager Muhammad Abu Khudair. As per usual the police despite having pictures of the thugs dawdled and it was only the disgusting nature of the crime and international pressure that their racist police force got off their culos at all.
Jews of Conscience in the Israeli human rights group B’Tselem commented “In recent years, Israeli civilians set fire to dozens of Palestinian homes, mosques, businesses, agricultural land and vehicles in the West Bank. The vast majority of these cases were never solved, and in many of them the Israeli police did not even bother to take elementary investigative actions.”
This is standard practice in Israel today. One week near Hebron or actually any place in the West Bank, rampant impunity of the settlers is standard practice. The IDF is there to protect not the innocent original Palestinian natives but the messianic settlers who not only torch olive groves but daily torch the Torah they say they believe in.
Earlier in July two Israelis burned a Jewish-Arab school in Jerusalem. Their punishment, a slap on the wrist. They said it was worth it. You can’t have Palestinians and Israelis studying together.
On Aug. 16, 2012 Israeli settlers firebombed a Palestinian taxi south of Bethlehem, injuring Jamila Hassan, her husband Ayman and their children Iman, 4, and Muhammad, 6, as well as the driver.
“We are lost, our life has turned upside down, the father, son and daughter are each in different worlds, our life is difficult and we’re miserable,” Jamila told Ma’an at Haddassah Hospital, where Mohammad and Ayman are being treated. Muhammad has severe burns on his back, hands, legs and face.
In January 2013 despite overwhelming evidence fingering the 12 and 13 year old settlers Israeli prosecutors dropped the case, citing a “lack of evidence.” If they were Palestinian children throwing rocks, they would have been brutally punished. Again standard practice.
For international consumption the west was treated to the crocodile tears of prime minister Benyamin Netanyahu who presided over the murders of over 500 children in Gaza last July. This is nothing but more hasbara (spin), a failed attempt to paint this outrage as an individual act rather than the predictable result of a colonial occupation and the coddling of illegal settlers who actually believe they are the true Zionists who are carrying out a divine mandate
