Halloween:Can Christmas be far behind?

November 1, 2008

Another All Hallows Eve come and gone. Another nail in the coffin to Christian culture.

Once again it was extraordinary to see the elaborate liturgy and rituals enacted in our neighbourhood—and I suspect every neighbourhood.

It is clear we need to celebrate, remember, ritualize our lives.

But the eve of All Saints day turned into a sugar-fest for the chocoalteers?

Halloween is becoming like American Thanksgiving in its importance. As the Christian basis of culture recedes we graft on this weak attempt to ‘celebrate’. Harmless enough, I guess.

All the elementary schools get into the act. But just what are they celebrating?

If Halow’een is here can the faux joy of Christmas be far behind?
